Unity House’s Front Door at Sixth Avenue and the Hoosick Street Bridge in Troy is making great progress. The community participated in a ‘Topping Off’ ceremony whereby the last steal beam was put in place, effectively “topping off” the structure. Staff, construction crew, supporters and neighbors were on hand to sign the beam before it was hoisted into place.
Next steps are the roof and enclosing the building. Then work will start on the interior of the building. Expected move-in date for Unity House to consolidate many of its services in The Front Door is Fall 2013.
The Front Door is only one piece of Unity House $8 million capital campaign; a mission to raise $8 million dollars to construct The Front Door and Sojourner Place, Unity House’s shelter for victims of domestic violence, which opened in spring 2012.
