Expanding opportunities through culturally responsive engagement
A Child’s Place at Unity House is where children of all ages learn and grow together. Spaces for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age are fun and engaging. Children are integrated and classrooms are inclusive, where children learn by doing what they do best: play.
In the Albany classrooms for 3 and 4 year old children, teachers were able to expand upon learning modules in the areas of art, music/dance, drama/theater, and STEAM. The enhancements were made possible thanks to funding received from the Carl E. Touhey Foundation.
The learning modules offer hands-on experiences appropriate for young children to explore new ideas and skills through the lens of diversity and the celebration of cultures from around the world. Staff at A Child’s Place have benefitted from professional development so they can create enrichment opportunities for students and families that are culturally responsive and promote a diversity of experiences.

With Gratitude
Special thanks to the Carl E. Touhey Foundation for their generous support. We applaud the foundation’s commitment to support local efforts to promote inclusivity and the necessary work to undo the historic and continuing injustice and inequality created through discriminatory practices that people of color, Black communities in particular, experience.
