Unity House’s kitchen was busy Wednesday morning, with the smell of pancakes in the air. For a special treat, bacon and eggs were on offer too!
The occasion was a celebration of the release of our cook Amy Halloran’s new book, ‘The New Bread Basket’. The book is subtitled, ‘How the new crop of grain growers, plant breeders, millers, maltsters, bakers, brewers, and local food activists are redefining our daily loaf.’ Breakfast was followed by an author talk about grain, food justice and the historical roots of mills in our community. A copy of the book will have a permanent home on our kitchen book shelf for guests to borrow the book to read. For more information on the work and writings of Troy author Amy Halloran, you can go to her website or to that of her book publisher. Copies of the book can also be found locally at The Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza or Market Block Books in downtown Troy.
Congratulations to Amy on the publication of her work and many thanks for all she does, in our kitchen and our community.
