Working Together to address food insecurity

For families facing food insecurity, Fall can be a stressful time. Access to a food pantry and community meals can be a lifeline to individuals and families facing food insecurity- when consistent access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources.

Unity House is proud to partner with neighboring non-profits CEO and Capital Roots to provide Thanksgiving Food Packages. By working together, we can maximize efficiency and provide a nutrient-dense package with dignity. Folks sign up in advance to identify the needs for their family size. By having an appointment for pick-up, there are no lines out the door. We aim, as always, to treat each other with dignity and respect. This can sometimes be a challenge as the needs are great and the time leading up to Thanksgiving can be fraught with stress and challenges. Each food package contains pantry staples, fresh produce provided by Capital Roots’ network of local farmers, and a gift card for a protein of choice, usually turkey.

How Can You Help?

Consider making a gift to Unity House’s food programs. Much of what we provide comes from our account at the Regional Food Bank, where our pantry has an account. Some is donated, but there are always needs that can be met only through funds. A donation to food programs is efficient since we can use economies of scale to stretch every dollar.

Other ways to help are to collect needed pantry staples, either on your own or with a group. To download our handy flyer, go here:

On behalf of those we serve, and especially the hundreds of families we will serve for Thanksgiving, Thank You for your support.
