Busiest Time of Year!
Staff, friends and volunteers of Unity House are gearing up for one of the busiest times of year to undertake a huge endeavor: Unity House’s Adopt a Child program. The program, which will serve over 1,300 children across Unity House program areas, aims to ensure children in need have a joyous holiday season. There are many ways interested individuals and families and groups can get involved- a little or a lot!- here is more detail:
Adopt a Child– Receive a child’s Wish List and try to fulfill it. As early as November, staff sit down with a young child and determine two wants and needs. This information, along with the child’s age, gender, clothing size and shoe size, go onto a child’s Wish List.
Conduct a Toy Drive– individuals, families and groups can buy toys, games, books and coats to stock our holiday ‘store’ where parents can shop for free to pick out a wanted item for their child. This provides the dignity of choice parents need and ensures gifts are the right fit for the right child.
Donate Gift Cards– Gift cards in amounts of approximately $25 to chain stores or grocery stores are always needed. Gift cards are also good for tweens and teens, who often like to choose their own gift.
Make a Gift to our Adopt a Child Fund- Donations to our program allow us to serve children in all areas of our program. Our Domestic Violence Services program alone will need help with gifts for more than 600 children. Donations help ensure we can purchase needed items such as coats and boots. Other programs such as our Unity Sunshine Program and our Community Resources program also have hundreds of children from families living in poverty.
