SNAP & Summer Meals

Help is Available

Unity House partners with Hunger Solutions NY to have a dedicated Coordinator to help individuals and families facing food insecurity access SNAP benefits, commonly known as food stamps. New York’s Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) is a nationally recognized model for SNAP outreach.

Karen McKenzie, our NOEP Coordinator, can answer questions about the program and can help people certify or re-certify in SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. With these benefits, families can supplement their food budget.

Hunger Spikes in Summer

For families, school can be a source of nutrition during the weekday. When school lets out for summer, some parents are scrambling to come up with those extra meals: children often grab a free breakfast at school and eat free lunch daily.

Free summer meals at Unity House and other places in the community can be a lifeline for parents and caregivers.  Also helpful are SNAP benefits that supplement a family’s food budget.

Please reach out to Karen if you’d like to learn more!
