Teens can see Help Available on Instagram

Instagram, the picture-oriented social media platform that is the most used social media among teenagers, is the latest tool in targeting youth.

Unity House’s Domestic Violence Services team, which offers safe space to all victims of domestic and dating abuse, was inspired to set up a teen oriented social media channel during February’s Teen DV Awareness & Prevention month.

The goal of the pageis to engage with youth on topics related to healthy relationships, signs of abuse, and how to get help for yourself or a peer. The page description reads, “UH Domestic Violence Services
24-hr Domestic Violence Hotline: (518) 272-2370. Outreach Services: 504 Broadway Troy, NY 12180, M-F, 8AM-5PM. All services are free & confidential!”

Of course, Instagram is only one part of the broad outreach efforts the Unity House team engages in year-round. They work using a collaborative community approach to help meet the needs of victims of domestic violence, support survivors in maintaining safety, raise awareness about the issue, advocate for batterer accountability, and stand as a beacon of hope for those who may still be suffering in an abusive situation.

If you are interested in having a speaker engage with your office, youth group, faith community, book club or other social group, please let us know.  And be sure to follow us on Instagram!
