A Super Logo to Celebrate a Super Anniversary

Unity House to celebrate 50th Anniversary in 2021-2022

As we finalize plans for our 50th anniversary celebration, we are thrilled to unveil a new anniversary logo that celebrates a half century of service.

Unity House’s iconic green logo incorporating the words unity and house with a roof overhead was originally created in 1971 by a volunteer, John Baackes, one of the first community members who helped the then-fledgling organization build its foundation. Baackes, who was a well-known health care executive in the Capital Region for decades, now serves as CEO of L.A. Health Care Plan in Los Angeles. As Unity House started planning for its 50th anniversary, the planning committee reached out to Baackes for his thoughts on updating the logo.

“Since his first involvement with Unity House, John became a steadfast supporter and to this day, decades later, he remains a passionate champion of social justice causes,” said Unity House CEO Chris Burke.

“We were thrilled with his twist on the original,” said Burke. “The use of gold, traditionally used for 50th anniversaries, complements the original green and white of the classic Unity House logo. Best of all, it is still a house where all are welcome.”

Celebratory events will begin in July 2021 and continue until June 2022 with several special programs and events that will be open to the community. “Family Fun Day,” a day full of outdoor activities for both children and adults, will kick off the celebration on Sunday, July 18th.
