Dressing the Part

First Impressions Boost Confidence

Landing a new job and starting work in a new workplace can be daunting. Imagine if you had the added stress of what to wear when you don’t have a lot of options. Thanks to a partnership between Unity House and the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), help is available to ease that stress.

Partnering to Make a Difference

The EOC has offered tuition-free academic and workforce development opportunities to disadvantaged and educationally under-prepared individuals since 1966. Thousands of Capital Region residents have gained self-confidence in their own potential, realized career goals, and obtained self-sufficiency and economic independence. The people served by the EOC represent the diversity of the Capital District, the average age of a participant is 31 years old. Graduates secure entry level positions in professional fields.

The Unity House store, ReStyle, has always offered gently used clothes, shoes and accessories for the community. The prices are standardized and low. For those who have an emergency or cannot afford clothing, there are no fees. Guests use a voucher so they can shop for clothes on their own, picking out what suits them.

Unity House is partnering with the EOC, the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, a division of Hudson Valley Community College to offer clothing to their students with a direct voucher, available through EOC. EOC students can get professional attire, free of charge, from ReStyle, the Unity House store. Clothing options will help boost confidence with the job hunt, help candidates shine in an interview, and look professional when on the job.
