Unity House will once again have a team of walkers- mostly dog walkers- in the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society’s annual “Paws in the Park” event. Scheduled for Saturday, June 27th on the campus of Siena College in Loudonville, this family-friendly event is a great way to raise funds for the valuable work of the humane society.
Unity House’s teams is made up of friends and staff from the Unity House Domestic Violence Services Program. Why that program? It’s because the humane society is a valuable partner to many domestic violence services programs in the capital region. Up to 71% of pet-owning victims of domestic violence entering shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control their victims. This is why the partnerships between fostering programs the humane societies offer to victims are crucial: they remove a barrier to leaving.
All of the work the humane society does is valuable, but this partnership is one that reaps multiple benefits for everyone.
Unity House is proud of the amazing team of Unity House staff and friends who come out year after year to support needed services provided by the humane society. If you would like to support the Paws in the Park event, and especially our amazing Unity House team with their adorable pets, please visit their team fundraising page at the link below.
Many thanks to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society for all they do.
